The legend about Skopje
The legend of Skopje says that the seven mountains were a part of a huge round-shaped monolith rock that resembles a human head, with no openings or cracks. The myth says that the massive rock was a head of a giant on which the spells were being thrown and was also sealed with magic. One day, a hero was walking and used the magical spirit to re-open the eyes, ears, nostrils and mouth of the stone head. That way, he created 7 roads that go through 7 mountains in and out of Skopje. Because of that magical spirit, that is called 'kopje' ('spear') in Macedonia, the city got the name Sokopje- which means 'with a spear', later transforming to Skopje.
