Jovica Nikolic was 20/21 top young player
In terms of numbers and statistics, Jovica Nikolic is the true number 1 of the Under-23 players in SEHA. At the age of 20, the Serbian right back (190 cm and 90 kg) already finished playing his fourth SEHA season for Vojvodina. Nikolic is the youngest player in the history of the SEHA - Gazprom League to reach 100 goals, just after his 18th birthday. Currently, he has 122 strikes for the Novi Sad club, with a 66% efficiency on 186 attempts.
Nikolic still remains the biggest talent in Serbian handball. Besides his successful shots, Nikolic already has 43 assists in 36 SEHA - Gazprom League matches on his tally. His best match of the 2020/21 season was the one against Motor, when he scored nine times and handed six assists to Vojvodina players.
At the age of 16, he already had his debut in the Serbian League and SEHA - Gazprom League. He was an All-star Team member at the U-18 EHF EURO in 2018. In 2019/20 season, he was fifth best scorer of the SEHA - Gazprom League. This recent season wasn’t his best, as he only played two matches, so there wasn’t enough time to put up great numbers. In EHF Cup, Nikolic also displayed some magic by scoring 26 goals.
Thanks to his development, Serbian national team coach Toni Gerona has the young lefty on his list and expects even more from him in the upcoming years. Future-wise, Nikolic said that it is a big dream of his to make it to a French or German club, but not before he matures and grows more at Vojvodina.
As a part of the Best 7 captains choice, the best young star, U-23 was chosen as well. Make sure you don't miss our Online magazine which will be out soon! Stay tuned!
