Partizan versus CO Zagreb is always a derby
Partizan i Zagreb – ‘’to je uvek derbi’’
Two big rivals Partizan and CO Zagreb will meet on Wednesday (18:00) in Banjica hall in Belgrade, nine years after their legendary clashes in the Cup Winners Cup quarter-finals. The derby match of SEHA GSS League, round 13 got the high media attention in Serbian capital, despite of the fact that two rivals are in different position - on the bottom and on the top of regional competition:
"We have a goal to increase our scoring balance in the second part of the season. We will look for the opportunity to do so in every next match. I believe that we will succeed on Wednesday, although we’ll play against the leader and a team which is fighting for EHF Champions League‘s TOP 16", said Partizan’s coach Aleksandar Brkovic.
One of the biggest reinforcements for Partizan, Vlada Mandic, is sure that "black and white" can beat Zagreb at home, although they have lost the first games of the season with -12 in Zagreb.
- We all know what Partizan as a club represents, so we’re always going for a win. This match is not different. We are realistic and know that Zagreb is favorite, but we’re playing in our hall in front of our fans and wish to play each match as good as possible. I wish people to see that our team improves. Zagreb is a big team and huge motivation especially for young players. This is a derby match of this round for sure and chance for all handball lovers to see the clash of two strong teams and enjoy attractive handball.
CO Zagreb’s coach, Boris Dvorsek is also optimistic before the match in Belgrade:
- This is a very important match for us because we still have not ensured our place on SEHA GSS Final Four. We are leaders at the moment, but five matches are still ahead of us, we need more points and for each one we have to fight. Our first chance will be against Partizan and we are going to Belgrade for a win. We were better in the first match and hopefully we’ll repeat that on Wednesday. It is true that Partizan isn’t the same team from the beginning of the season, they’ve improved a lot, reinforced with 5 new players, young coach with a vision, who knows what to do. I like that team personally. I regret the fact that we didn’t meet each other more often, because when Partizan and Zagreb play - that is always a derby - commented Dvorsek.
After the victory over Motor at EHF Champions League, which put them close to the EHF CL’s TOP 16, Zagreb’s players think only about the victory:
- I don’t expect anything less than that. We respect every rival, but if we think to achieve our goal - SEHA GSS F4, we have to win at least 9 points from last five matches and we’ll do our best to reach first 3 in Belgrade. I am sure that it won’t be easy and that Partizan is more dangerous at home - concluded C.O Zagreb’s right back Luka Sebetic.
Partizan also continues to promote matches in attractive way with famous athletes or artists in role of "match promoter". This time that will be famous Serbian actor - Nenad Jezdic.
