Hungarian MVM Veszprem has celebrated a derby victory against PPD Zagreb at home. It was in the end 38:27 (18:12). Hosts were clear favorites, with Zagreb deciding to leave most of their most important players at home in order to prepare better for CL clash against Kiel on Thursday. This was Veszprems 14th win in 15 matches which brought them an additional step closer towards first place after the regular part of the season. Hungarians still have three matches to play in the League among which is the one against their biggest SEHA rival - Vardar.

Veszprem started the match strongly enlarging the gap to 4 soon into the encounter with Palmarsson, Marguč, Nilsson and Ilić leading the team. After that Lekai took control and Veszprem were cruising towards 18:12 after first 30.

Croatian youngsters have opened the second half in a much better way with Pavlović scoring for 19:17 only 5 minutes into the second half. However, hosts have managed to remain focused, their defense was working even better than in the first half and the gap was enlarged to 10 with only 7 minutes left on the clock after Sulić scored in counter attack. Good thing for guests was that youngsters like Vusić, Panjan and Vrdoljak were given a chance to show what they can against one of the best European teams.

Ugalde scored 7 for Veszprem and on the other side pavlović netted 9 times for Zagreb.

Final result doesn't show real situation on court with match being quite narrow for more than 45 minutes. Zagreb've decided to play with many young players who obviouly were not able to keep up for all 60 minutes but they've played really good match. I'd also like to congratulate my players on another good performance, we're experiencing real tough schedule but they are doing amazing.

I would like to congratulate Veszprem on a well deserved win. We came here without more than half of our squad. We will on Thursday play an important match in Kiel in EHF Champions League, so I thought that it will be to tough for my players to play tonight in Veszprem. We've tried to give our best and play best we can against Veszprem, but they were a much better team today and we couldn't do much to battle them today. I wish Veszprem all the best in SEHA League and Champions League as well.
