Meshkov easily sail past Celje PL
БГК налегке прошел «Целе»
Instead of a derby, fans in Brest could only enjoy one team’s performance and that was Meshkov which has managed to easily sail past Celje, secure a dominant 36:29 victory and enlarge the winning streak. On the other side, Slovenian champions have definitely entered a bad period of the season with four defeats in last four matches, two in each SEHA Gazprom League and Champions League.
Meshkov have once again displayed great potential and good form getting a step closer to F4. Hosts were in control of the match from the beginning enlarging the gap to 9 with a bit less than 10 minutes left to play. With six encounters behind them Belarusian champions are positioned second with 13 points and Celje will on the other hand remain fifth. Interesting is that Celje will soon have a chance for revenge as they will meet once again in the upcoming round of EHF Champions League. Considering SEHA League, Celje will in the next round travel to Skopje to meet Metalurg and Meshkov will be NEXE’s guest in Nasice.
Sergey Bebeshko,
Meshkov coach:
We’ve managed to win the match on
Saturday and it often happens that we do not play well after important wins
flying on wings of euphoria. Luckily that was not the case tonight. In the
beginning we were in 5-1 defensive formation with Prodanovic and later we’ve
transformed to 6-0 with magnificent Mijatovic. Easy goals were working for us
today as we were able to enlarge the gap soon into the match. Second half
opening was not good, we’ve received too many fast goals and that was the main
reason for 29 goals in our net in the end which certainly isn’t a good thing.
We must forget this win as soon as possible and start to prepare for the
upcoming challenges.
Rade Mijatovic,
Meshkov player:
We’ve played well in the first half.
But we did not present best handball we can deliver. Our schedule was tight
with a match every 3 days and I believe we can play even better. I also think
Celje did not play best they can today.
Branko Tamse,
Celje PL coach:
Congratulations to Meshkov. We’ve
tried to keep up but several stupid mistakes were there to allow Meshkov to
enlarge the gap to 5-6. We’ve even tried to play without a goalie but that did
not help us catch them. It is difficult to play such a strong team like Meshkov
on road.
Jaka Malus, Celje
PL player:
In the beginning of the match we
were able to stay close but after that our game simply collapsed as we were
committing mistakes which were allowing Meshkov to enlarge the gap and secure
the win in the end.
