Telekom Veszprem win against Meshkov Brest in a thriller ending
Izgalmas végjátékban győzte le a Veszprém a Bresztet
Reigning SEHA Gazprom League winners Telekom Veszprem got back on the winning track with a triumph over Meshkov Brest 31:30 (17:16). Despite of the fact that a lot of Belarusian players had a significant role in an important win over Serbia just 48 hours earlier, Sergey Bebeshko's team played very well at Veszprem Arena chasing EHF Champions League runners-up until the last second of the match. Winner was decided by two technical mistakes of Meshkov's back players Iman Jamali and Pavel Atman in last two attacks of the match. At the end, Hungarian team had only to take care of the ball in final 20 seconds and take the W.
Stojkovic scored 9 goals for Meshkov, Gajic 9 and Nagy 8 for Veszprem.
Veszprem now passed Meshkov on League's table. Xavi Sabate's team is now third behind Vardar and PPD Zagreb.
Xavi Sabate, Telekom Veszprem coach:
I would like to congratulate Brest as they are a
very good team. They have a great season so far. We've had difficulties
preparing for the game because most of our players played in the national team.
They had to travel a lot. We've also had some injuries like Nagy, Lekai or
Ivancsik, who are getting better and better. I am very proud of my team,
because we work hard every day, everyone can come and see it. I think it is a
big victory even considering the fact that this morning I got the news that
Palmarsson, Terzic and Sulic are not able to play. We've found ourselves in a
tough situation, especially in defense. Everybody made a huge effort to win
this game today. This is why I am happy for this win.
Blaz Blagotinsek, Telekom Veszprem line player:
It was a difficult match because all of us just got back
from national teams. We did not play very good in defense in the first half,
but in the second we've made our defense tougher, had some fast break goals and
managed to win the game.
Sergey Bebeshko, Meshkov Brest coach:
It was a very interesting game against a good team. It was
very tough because the team just got back together after the international
break. I am very happy that my team fought hard, but unfortunately in crucial
moments we've made mistakes.
Rade Mijatovic, Meshkov Brest goalkeeper:
I feel sad because we could have won this game or take one
point home. I do not know if we will ever have a better chance for that. We
will give our best in upcoming games in SEHA League and EHF Champions League to
show that this match was not just pure luck.
