Janc goes off for 13 goals as Celje cruise past Gorenje
Celje Pivovarna Lasko have managed to beat Gorenje Velenje 34:28 (20:12) in Slovenian derby of SEHA GAZPROM League. Match was quite different from their first face-off this season a month ago in Velenje when Celje took a narrow 27:26 victory. Job was this time much easier for Tamse's guys, mostly due to unbelievable Janc who netted 13. Host were 20:12 up after first 30 and the deal was already sealed. Cehte scored 5 for Gorenje but that was far from enough to beat multiple the team of Celje in Zlatorog.
Slovenian champions are now with 15 points much closer to the place on SEHA Final4. They are now on fifth place with just two points less than Meshkov Brest who are a match ahead of them.
Borut Plaskan, Gorenje Velenje coach:
Well-deserved win for Celje PL. We simply weren’t good tonight, we were soft in defense, slow in running back in defense. Celje were that way given a chance to score many easy goals. If you let them do what they want on their court, it is impossible to win. We haven’t had enough energy to turn the match over but we've also lost two players which is everything but good news ahead of upcoming matches.
Alem Toskic, Gorenje Velenje line-player:
I want to congratulate Celje on a well- deserved win tonight. We've lost the match in Celje with the first whistle. Obviously, heads were full of previous matches in which Celje won, so it was tough to get ready for this encounter. We have time, we have to believe, this is a young team and we need to work and I believe that result will come.
Branko Tamse, Celje Pivovarna Lasko coach:
Since Borut Plaskan overtook Gorenje, team is playing much quicker, dynamic handball, which I like as a coach. I am happy that we've presented handball which we would like to play all the time - fast counter-attacks, attacks and very good defense especially in the first half. There were a lot of nice play, goals, it was match with full meaning of a derby. We've made a huge advantage in the first half thanks to Blaz Janc, who was man of the match. However, I want to praise the whole team. Velenje came closer in the second half forcing us to raise our level and control the result until the end. I feel sorry for injuries, but we know how tough rhythm is and that injuries can be expected.
Blaz Janc, Celje Pivovarna Lasko right winger:
My coach said almost everything, I won’t repeat it. I would like to congratulate my team. We've had only two days to prepare it and Velenje had a whole week. Huge win led by fighting spirit and will. That has to lead us in the future. We are very optimistic ahead of our trip to Belarus.
