Roland Mikler calms Telekom Veszprem in Presov
After the loss against PPD Zagreb and a draw in Nasice, Telekom Veszprem have managed to get back on winning track in an away match in Presov. Hungarians have delivered an exceptional defensive performance and that was the key for final 26:18. Of course, in such defense, Roland Mikler played a big role with 14 saves giving Tatran no chance to surprise favorites. Tatran also had a goalkeeping force in Igor Chupryna (16 saves) but their technical mistakes have in the end proved to be costly. Gabor Ancsin netted 5 for Veszprem and on the other side Oliver Rabek scored 6 for Tatran. Veszprem will on Thursday play in Velenje and Tatran will on the other hand welcome Metalurg on Saturday.
Rastislav Trtik, Tatran coach:
They did not manage to reach good results lately but we were in my opinion
in an even worse situation missing many important players. I completely agree with Xavi Sabate - players are people, not machines. We
have a huge problem with missing players and demanding schedule. Our biggest
problem is that we play so many games in 4 different competitions with limited
number of players. In the first half we were strong in defense that was well supported
by great saves of Igor Chupryna. It was worse in the second half when we've
lost strength. We did not have a single player who would be able to score
desperately missing pressure our backs can usually do and produce. We've that
way given Veszprem a chance to score easy goals in counter attacks. I would like to thank our fans for active
support during the match.
Igor Chupryna, Tatran goalkeeper:
Veszprem have really played good handball tonight. We have a really young
team which is trying hard and looking to deliver nice performances but our
capacity is limited.
Xavi Sabate, Telekom Veszprem coach:
It is always difficult for us to play in Presov. Performance from my
players was excellent today and that is why I am very proud of them. I am very
happy they managed it because players are people, not machines. Now we have to
prepare thoroughly for the game versus Gorenje Velenje. I wish Presov good luck
for the rest of the season.
Roland Mikler, Telekom Veszprem
goalkeeper:
Tatran were able to deliver a good, fighting performance today. Igor
Chupryna was brilliant today making saves on lots of clear shots. I am glad to
say that our defense was very good.
