Meshkov have, in probably the most important SEHA match for them so far this season, with 31:25 win over PPD Zagreb managed to reach sixth Final 4 SEHA - Gazprom League. Belarus champions were, after Ostroushko’ strong finish, already 3 goals up after first 30 which has later proved to be an advantage Sergey Bebeshko’ players would be able to keep and even enlarge in the second half all the way to final and dominant +6. Trio Kristopans - Stojkovic - Rutenka was once again leading guests in attack as they scored 4 each. Ivan Pesic had 10 saves. On the other side, David Miklavcic was with 6 goals leading visibly exhausted PPD Zagreb.
We now have our Final 4 SEHA - Gazprom League semi-final matchups. Top-placed Vardar will try to reach another final with a win over PPD Zagreb and Meshkov, which has with this win reached regular-season No.3, will play Telekom Veszprem.
Silvio Ivandija, PPD Zagreb coach:
We’ve
failed to deliver quality defensive performance which is an aspect in which we
should have been way better, which surely is our strong side. By that, some of
our players did not react well on some refereeing decisions on the court and
we’ll be forced to sanction that. We did not deliver our best.
Darko Cingesar, PPD Zagreb player:
Our
defense was really bad, not even close to how we can play and on top of that
our attack did not function well in the second half either. In case we wish to
fight for both SEHA and CL titles we’ll have to play better. We have to be more
careful about 2 minute suspensions after objections on refereeing decisions.
We’re hoping to reach SEHA final.
Sergey Bebeshko, Meshkov coach:
This was
not an important match for Zagreb but they were fighting and it was surely not
an easy match for us. We needed points to reach Final Four. Their attack was an
enigma for us but we’ve eventually managed to sort out our defense. We’re hoping
to reach SEHA final and once again face-off against Zagreb.
Ivan Pesic, Meshkov player:
We’ve
prepared well, played quite good especially in attack in which we were able to
stay focused despite of everything. Well-deserved win. Of course, it is always nice
to play at home.
