Steaua start their premier season on a high note with an upset versus Tatran
Steaua Bucuresti have successfully opened the new chapter of their club’s history with a win in their premier SEHA Gazprom League match defeating Tatran Presov 26:25 (11:16) after a great second-half performance. Match in Bucharest was also attended by International Handball Federation president Dr. Hassan Moustafa who has also decided to spend some time with Romanian legendary handball generation players prior to the match.
Tatran’ aggressive defense was obviously a difference maker in the first half. By that, goalkeeper Chupryna stopped six shots helping his team enlarge the gap to five before the break. Hosts were, however, eager to prove themselves in front of their fans today and it was quite visible in the second half when they started playing way better in defense, especially against Tatran back trio Urban – Lapajne – Butorac. Coach Slavko Goluza was able to stabilize his team’ performance later in the second but that was not enough for them to open the season with a positive result as Krsto Milosevic and Alin Rosu turned the result upside down in the end securing Romanians first three points of the season. Guests even had a chance to level the result in the end but Tudor Stanescu stopped Martin Stranovsky in his tracks finally sealing the deal in this one.
Alin Rosu scored seven for his team while Nemanja Grbovic and Javier Humet added four each. Jakub Hrstka and Martin Stranovsky (5/5 from the 7m line) on the other side led Tatran with six each.
