All five SEHA teams competing in the EHF Champions League played away matches over the weekend. The action did not disappoint, but Tatran Presov were the only club managing to take points in Round 8. Here is a complete recap of the round.

Group C: Besiktas-Mogaz – Metalurg 23:22 (12:12)

Metalurg were very close to reaching their first away points in the season. Perhaps a match that was surprisingly low in scoring, especially knowing the previous encounters between these teams. It was Besiktas’ first home win of the season, but Metalurg definitely played a very solid match overall. Tankoski and Tokic stood out for the young Macedonian team with 5 goals, as both continued their very good form this season. Fourth win for Besiktas against Metalurg in the last two years.

Group A: PGE Vive Kielce – Meshkov Brest 34:31 (17:16)

For the second week in a row, Meshkov Brest suffered a loss against the Polish champions. This time, Kielce were without Luka Cindric and it was seen during the contest. Meshkov were able to stay close for the entire match, but were not able to fully close the deficit. Shkurinskiy led the Belarusian troops with 7 goals, Simon Razgor added 5. On the other side, former SEHA players Alex Dujshebaev (9 goals) and Blaz Janc (6 goals) were Kielce’s top performers.

Group A: Barcelona-Lassa – Vardar 34:26 (16:15)

In the same group, Barcelona further established their place on top with the second consecutive victory over Vardar. The first half was very close, but the Spanish team was superior in the second, with a 7-0 run to open the period. Ivan Cupic scored 5 for Vardar, Dissinger and Kiselev added 4 goals each. With this result, Vardar fall to fourth place in the group, behind Barcelona, Kielce and RN Loewen.

Group C: Bjerringbro-Silkeborg – Tatran Presov 29:30 (17:14)

The Slovakian champions continued their historic run in the EHF Champions League with one of the biggest wins in recent history of the club. Tatran remain perfect in away matches, with a spectacular win over Silkeborg from Denmark. Bruno Butorac scored the winning 7m shot for Tatran who are now equal on points with Sporting and Silkeborg, as all three teams have 12 points. Butorac and Rabek were unstoppable for the Slovakians with 9 goals, but Mario Cvitkovic also had one of the best matches of the season in goal. Presov team now hold everything in their hands.

Group B: Celje PL – PPD Zagreb 30:21 (10:9)

After a great win in Zagreb for Croatian champions, Celje PL managed to get revenge in front of their fans. The first half was incredibly low scoring, but the Slovenians upped the tempo in the second, as they bagged 20 goals in the second 30 minutes. Branko Vujovic had 7 goals for the home team, Kodrin added 6, whilst on the other side, wingers were in form for PPD Zagreb, as Horvat and Bozic Pavletic combined for 9 goals. This win puts Celje PL ahead of PPD Zagreb in the standings.
