Vardar come out on top in a derby against PPD Zagreb
Vardar have on Wednesday evening managed to make a big step towards finishing the regular part of SEHA League season on top of the standings defeating PPD Zagreb 28:26 in Skopje. Both teams have already, alongside Nexe, managed to secure a place for themselves on the final tournament but it is still not clear who will face off against whom in the F4 semis. With three round left to play in the season Vardar managed to remain first with 39 points – three more than both PPD Zagreb and Nexe.
Match was full of ups and downs on both sides as coaches decided to rotate their teams as much as possible. Coach Parrondo decided to give Vuko Borozan, Daniil Shishkarev and Stas Skube some additional time to rest and prepare for an important game against Montpellier in a few days so they remained on the bench throughout the full course of the encounter.
PPD Zagreb started the game off with a 5:1 lead but Vardar managed to turn the result all the way around before the break (13:12). Story was almost the same in the second with guests controlling the result and Vardar scoring in key moments delivering big stops and saves to seal the deal in this one. Goalkeepers were shining on both sides. Khalifa Ghedbane had nine in the first half allowing his team to reduce the gap and eventually take the lead. Radivoje Ristanovic on the other side finished the game with nine.
Christian Dissinger scored seven goals for Vardar while Ivan Srsen netted eight for PPD Zagreb. In next round Vardar will host Meshkov Brest in what will be another SEHA - Gazprom derby. PPD Zagreb will travel to Nis and face off against Zeleznicar.
