The weekend will bring us the last set of duels in the EHF Champions League, and the action continues for Nexe in the EHF Cup. Vardar can still get the second place in Group A, where PPD Zagreb have secured the next phase, while Meshkov Brest need a win against Kristianstad to reach the next stage.

EHF Champions League:

It is a key match for Meshkov Brest, as the Belarusians host Kristianstad, who are two points behind Montpellier and Meshkov in the battle to progress to the next round. It will be a very interesting ending to the situation in Group A, as Montpellier travel to Skopje to meet Vardar. Meshkov Brest are probably with the best chances to get to next stage, especially with their recent home record that saw them beat RN Loewen and also achieve some big wins in SEHA – Gazprom League. The head-to-head record is also on their side since Meshkov defeated Kristianstad back in September and also in Brest in 2016!

Also at 17:30 in Group A, Vardar are in the hunt for the second place in the group. They are facing a very motivated French side Montpellier, as the reigning champions will not want to get knocked in the group stage. Montpellier desperately need a win in Skopje, to finish sixth in Group A. On the other hand, Vardar will need help from Poland; they need Vive Kielce to defeat Veszprem, so Vardar would have a chance to finish second. Macedonians did manage to beat Montpellier in their last encounter, as they celebrated a 3-goal win in France. Parrondo’s men will need a similar level of performance to win two new points.

On Sunday, PPD Zagreb will play their final match of the group stage against Pick Szeged in Hungary. The Hungarian champions are definitely second in Group B, no matter what happens against PPD Zagreb on Sunday. However, Croatian champions will definitely be motivated to upset Pick Szeged, knowing they can finish 5th in the group, if Motor lose to PSG. It is already a successful campaign for PPD Zagreb, who secured the next phase, which was their main goal this season in Europe. Head-to-head record favours Pick Szeged very much since PPD Zagreb’s last win against them came in 2012.

EHF Cup:

Nexe will look to prolong their fantastic streak in 2019. After two wins in SEHA – Gazprom League and three big wins in EHF Cup, they will look to build on 6 points they have at the moment, as they travel to Macedonia to meet Eurofarm Rabotnik. Nexe got a good win last week against them, it was 23:18, led by Marin Sipic’s 7 goals. If they manage to get to 4 wins in 4 matches, it would be a huge step towards repeating the same success as last season, quarter-finals of EHF Cup.
