Zeleznicar dominant in Bucharest
Zeleznicar 1949 have on Saturday celebrated their second SEHA - Gazprom League win in a row defeating Steaua Bucuresti in Bucharest. In the last round they were better than Metalurg at home and this time, reinforced with four newly-signed players, they were just too much for Romanian vice-champions in what was their final match in the competition in their rookie season. In the end 24:31.
Hosts were 10:8 up after 20 minutes but then Zeleznicar managed to catch the right rhythm not only closing the gap completely but overtaking control of the result at 11:12. Predrag Vejin (7 goals), newly-signed pivot Ante Babic (5 goals) and left winger Djordje Spasic were, alongside goalkeepers Matovic and Stosic leading Zeleznicar’ series in the second which helped them open the gap to six (17:23) less than 15 minutes before the final buzzer.
Ionut Georgescu on the other side scored seven for hosts. With their fifith win of the season, Zeleznicar are now sharing seventh position in the standings with 16 points alongside their national rivals – Vojvodina.
