It was a very successful weekend for SEHA – Gazprom League clubs, especially for three clubs participating in the EHF Champions League, as they all managed to grab positive results and confirm their participation in the next stage of the competition! In the EHF Cup, Nexe were close to new points, but could not celebrate in Macedonia.

EHF Champions League:

Group A: Vardar – Montpellier HB 33:27 (16:13)

Despite the win, Vardar have finished third in Group A, since Veszprem beat Vive Kielce in Poland. However, Vardar fans can be proud of the performance of their team in this match, and the group stage overall, as their team finished with terrific 9 wins and 1 draw in 14 matches. It's a very good result, which ultimately meant that 2017 European champions knocked out the reigning champions Montpellier! On Saturday in Skopje, Kristopans with 7, Karacic with 6 and Cupic with 5 goals led the Macedonians towards the win. Vardar will play PPD Zagreb in the next stage of the competition.

Group A: Meshkov Brest – IFK Kristianstad 32:23 (15:11)

In the Match of the Week in EHF Champions League, Belarusian champions achieved a crucial victory, reaching the next phase with a total of 9 points. It’s a massive success for Meshkov Brest, as they were drawn in a historically demanding Group A. Sime Ivic scored 6 goals for the hosts, Djordjic and Shumak added 4 each, for a fantastic win that sends Meshkov at the hands of Flensburg who finished with 15 points in Group B.

Group B: MOL-Pick Szeged – PPD Zagreb 26:26 (14:14)

PPD Zagreb were aiming for a win in Hungary that would give them a chance to finish 5th in the Group, since Motor Zaporozhye lost to PSG. However, even though a draw against Hungarian champions is a fantastic achievement, it was not enough, as PPD Zagreb finished with 11 points and 6th in Group B. It is a big result for Croatian champions and Branko Tamse, who will now face Vardar in the first knock-out stage. Against Pick Szeged, PPD Zagreb played very well and managed to close the -2 deficit in the final minutes. David Mandic scored 8 goals and Ivan Srsen added 6 today.

EHF Cup:

Group B: Eurofarm Rabotnik – Nexe 29:28 (14:12)

After three wins to open the competition in the EHF Cup, Nexe suffered their first loss. Even though they were favourites against the Macedonian team, and they beat them last week, Eurofarm Rabotnik managed to snatch their first win of the campaign. The hosts started better from the first minute and managed to hold off the team from Nasice in the final minutes. Ante Gadza stood out for Nexe with 9 goals, and Mario Tomic scored 5 goals, as well continuing his good form. Nexe have a tough away match against Hannover-Burgdorf in the next round.
