Meshkov come out on top against Zagreb, secure Final 4 spot
We now know all four of this season’s SEHA - Gazprom League Final 4 tournament participants with Meshkov becoming the fourth team to book a final tournament ticket with a home win (31:26) over PPD Zagreb on Saturday afternoon. This will be their seventh final tournament appearance in a row.
Zagreb were able to stay close to favored hosts throughout the bigger part of the first. Last time they managed to narrow the gap to only minus one was about five minutes before the half-time whistle at 11:10. After that it was almost all Meshkov.
Belarusians were dominating the encounter in the second half as well opening the gap to nine (29:20). However, as the game was coming to a close it became obvious the deal is sealed in this one and as a result Meshkov slowed down a bit allowing Zagreb to reduce the gap to five until the final buzzer.
Maxim Baranau and Petar Djordjic netted six each for Meshkov while Zlatko Horvat scored seven for PPD Zagreb.
Meshkov now have 36 points – just as much as NEXE who they are going to play in four days in Nasice.
