Vardar – under the spotlight more than ever
As the new season looms, it's time to meet participants in the 9th edition of the SEHA – Gazprom League. Let's begin the 9th season story with Vardar, reigning European and SEHA champions.
Red and Black are a well known name in the regional league. They are five-times SEHA trophy winners, an amazing collective with unbelievable fighting spirit. It seems as this golden generation just can't get enough of winning. With every competition, they are striving for more. And there is no doubt, the upcoming season will be a new challenge for them.
Vardar is going to enter the new season journey with some changes in their team. One of the legendary SEHA stars Igor Karacic, and the best goalie from the 2018/2019 season, Dejan Milosavljev, will move to the new clubs. The Russian duo Kalarash-Kiselev departed from Vardar, as well as Janja Vojvodic. Vuko Borozan and Rogerio Moraes signed for the SEHA rivals, Telekom Veszprem. But with every goodbye comes another hello. We will see Pavel Atman, Sergey Gorpishin, Arturs Kugis, Jose Guilherme de Toledo, Domen Sikoshek Pelko and Dimitar Dimitrioski in the Red and Black jersey. David Pisonero will guide the team from Skopje as he took over the head coach position from Roberto Parrondo. There will also be the team captain, unbelievable Stojanche Stoilov, who will once again lead Vardar. Besides him, unstoppable wing Timur Dibirov and the last SEHA Final 4 MVP Dainis Kristopans will play the key role in Vardar's team. Ivan Cupic, Daniil Shiskarev, Ghedbane Khalifa, Stas Skube, Martin Popovski, Christian Dissinger and Sergei Gorbok are also well known SEHA faces.
With the new playing system in the SEHA – Gazprom League being announced, Vardar have found out their opponents in Group A. The team from SC Jane Sandanski will play against three well-known SEHA clubs; Nexe, Tatran Presov and Vojvodina. Two excellent newcomers will also battle with Vardar for precious points: Grundfos Tatabanya from Hungary and Motor Zaporozhye from Ukraine.
On top of that, the team from Skopje will be on their mission to defend the European champions title as they will once again compete in the EHF Champions League. The last season’s title enabled them to participate in another competition, the IHF Super Globe.
There is no doubt, the whole new season of excitement and obstacles is in front of the Red and Black family. In that adventure, one of the key part of the Vardar's puzzle will be their 8th players, loud and loyal fans.
We will soon find out if the golden generation can conquer the handball world one more time and write the new chapter in Vardar's history book.
