Telekom Veszprem – the return of the Hungarian champions
After missing the last two seasons, Telekom Veszprem have made their way back in the SEHA – Gazprom League. The amazing team from Hungary will rejoin us in the upcoming season and will try to make their fourth time here the best one yet. It will definitely be a tough job to top the previous results. In the 2014/2015 season, they were newcomers in the League, but managed to secure their first ever SEHA trophy. And, that wasn't the only time they finished on top. In the 5th edition of the SEHA – Gazprom League, they once again dominated at the Final 4 tournament and became the SEHA champions.
While they were absent in our League, they were continuously making great achievements elsewhere. During the last season, Veszprem became Hungarian champions for the 26th time and managed to get through to the EHF Champions League Final 4 tournament. In the end, they finished second as our reigning champions Vardar stole the show once again.
In their fourth SEHA season, Veszprem will start their journey in Group B. On their way to their third SEHA title, they will meet Croatian champions, PPD Zagreb and Meshkov Brest from Belarus. They will also play against another SEHA – Gazprom League returnee, Serbian Metaloplastika and two new clubs, Eurofarm Rabotnik and Beijing Sport University.
Veszprem made sure that they will make their comeback with the strongest names on their team. Two great players, Vuko Borozan and Rogerio Moraes departed Vardar at the end of the last season and joined the Hungarian champions. Veszprem also welcomed Pawel Paczkowski, who previously played for Motor Zaporozhye and Omar Khaled Yahia from Zamalek. Another big name that will be a part of the Veszprem team is Danish star Rasmus Lauge Schmidt from Flensburg Handewitt. The amazing goalie Vladimir Cupara is also going to strengthen Veszprem in the following seasons, as he came from PGE Vive Kielce.
With so many new faces, it was only fair to let some other forces go. The biggest Veszprem star and the absolute handball legend, Laszlo Nagy decided it was time to say goodbye to the playing court. He will still be a part of the club as from now on he will be Veszprem's sports director. We won't see the legendary Momir Ilic on the court as well. After an amazing career, Serbian international decided to retire.
Roland Mikler will continue his career in Pick Szeged, Gabor Ancsin will strengthen Grundfos Tatabanya and Rene Toft Hansen will join Benfica. The last one that left the club was Iman Jamali.
With the amazing David Davis as their coach, Veszprem are once again going to be one of the main candidates for winning the League. In their first season back, they will have to accustom to the new playing system and some new participants. But despite all that, the most successful Hungarian team and amazing collective will have the whole season for creating some new SEHA memories.
