Serbian champions to play their 8th SEHA - Gazprom League season
Serbian champions RK Vojvodina Novi Sad preparing for the eighth season in the SEHA - Gazprom League. After New Year’s break team has been working without head-coach Boris Rojevic, who was a part of the coaching staff of the Serbian national team at Men’s EHF EURO 2022 in Hungary and Slovakia.
The team from „Slana bara” hall confirmed placement in regional competition by winning convincingly the eight Serbian championship trophy in row. The best Serbian team since 2013 had also successfull start of the season 2021/2022 on the national level. „Red-white” from Novi Sad have won the first place in Preliminary Group of ARKUS League by winning 11 of 12 matches. TOP scorer of the first part of the season was right wing Aleksa Kljajic with 64 goals, newcomer in the squad, who has SEHA experience with RK Metaloplastika Sabac and RK Zeleznicar Nis. Play-offs battles begin on February 12 when in Novi Sad will come current vice-champions RK Partizan Beograd.
RK Vojvodina have won the „All Serbian Cup” in Loznica. They easily beat RK Sloga Doboj 30:20 at the final to secure fifth trophy in a row in this competition in which playing two best teams from Serbia and Republika Srpska.
Vojvodina’s roster didn’t change too much in comparation with the last season. Rojevic’s biggest aces are again experienced 41-years old goalkeeper Svetislav Verkic, double younger, 20 years-old right back Jovica Nikolic and 37-years old playmaker Nemanja Pribak. The first line-up are also composed by Mladen Sotic, the 26-years old left wing who played in Serbian jersey at Men’s EHF EURO 2022 as the only member of RK Vojvodina, but also Gregor Ocvirk, Slovenian left back who was MVP of the Men’s U20 EHF EURO 2018.
Although Serbian squad wanted to have more important role in European competition, Swiss vice-champions Kadetten Schaffhausen have been better in the round 1 of the EHF European League. After win in Novi Sad 26:20, Rojevic’s team underperformed in away match – 23:34.
„Slana bara” is one of the traditional SEHA - Gazprom League home courts. Since their debut in season 2013/2014, RK Vojvodina celebrated some of the biggest wins in the club’s history, but still waiting for the placement at SEHA Final 4 event. The closest, Rojevic and his boys, who won the last 10 trophies in Serbian handball, has been in season 2019/2020 when they played quarter-final against Telekom Veszprem (26:30 – 0:10 due Covid-19).
RK Vojvodina will open SEHA - Gazprom League season 2021/2022 with Ukrainian TOP team HC Motor Zaporozhye on February 2 in front of home fans. Serbian champions will compete in Group B alongside RK Vardar Skopje and RK Nexe Nasice.
