Vardar looking for first points in Novi Sad
After the opening loss to Nexe in Skopje, five-time SEHA – Gazprom League champions Vardar 1961 will on Tuesday meet Serbian champions Vojvodina in Novi Sad. After the defeat to Nexe, Macedonians will surely be highly-motivated to deliver a good performance and secure first points in northern Serbia.
However, Boris Rojevic and his guys will certainly have something to say in that match as well. In the last few seasons, they are clearly on the rise as a team and it will be interesting to see whether they will find a way to take advantage of Vardar’s current form and additionally complicate the situation in Group B.
Last season Vojvodina managed to reach a dominant 33:24 win at home against rejuvenated ‘Red&Black’ roster which is surely another warning for David Davis and his guys for what can happen in case they do not enter the match completely focused.
Match is scheduled for 17.30 CET and will be broadcasted live on RTS and Sport TV so make sure to tune in!
Boris Rojević, Vojvodina coach:
Vardar is surely coming to Novi Sad highly-motivated after the loss against Nexe at home. We expect them to come here with everything they’ve got. That will, on the other hand, be a great opportunity for my guys to play against a top-quality side and see how close they are to them at the moment. We’ll do our best to rotate the squad as much as possible and give everyone a chance.
Jovica Nikolic, Vojvodina player:
We know everything about Vardar, former European champions. Always a special motive for us. In recent years we’ve managed to deliver some really good performances against them which says a lot of our quality but we have to be realistic. Even a point would be a huge accomplishment for us.
David Davis, Vardar coach:
We have to deliver a much better performance than we did in the match against Nexe. Vojvodina has a really good team led offensively by experienced Nemanja Pribak. They have a good atmosphere and are very dangerous, especially at home. We have to be patient, prepare the right way both physically and mentally. We know exactly what is it we have to do in order to get where we want to be and we have to take it day by day.
Darko Djukic, Vardar player:
Tough match is ahead of us. We have to play against Vojvodina in Novi Sad and win the match. Pribak and Nikolic are two of their most important players and a lot depends on them. We have to take care of the ball, be aggressive on the defensive side of the court and attack better than we did against Nexe.
