Veszprem welcomes Porto, Motor at home against PSG
With the beginning of the second part of the handball season, the time has come for the second part of the season in European competitions as well where our SEHA – Gazprom League clubs and players are proving why they are among the best in business. It’s time for our weekly preview of the EHF Champions League and EHF European League!
In EHF CL Group A, SEHA – Gazprom League has three representatives – currently sixth-positioned PPD Zagreb, seventh Vardar 1961 and eighth Meshkov Brest.
Meshkov Brest will on Wednesday welcome Danish Aalborg which is currently second in the standings. Coach Gordo will surely be looking to stun last season’s F4 participants. In their premier clash of the season, Aalborg managed to reach a narrow 34:33 win at home, which means Belarusians clearly have what it takes to deliver a solid outing against favored Danes.
Macedonian Vardar 1961 will travel to France where they will meet current leaders of the group – Montpellier. After the defeat at home against Nexe and a dominant outing in Novi Sad, new head coach David Davis and his team will face a big challenge away from home against a team which is having an amazing season so far.
Finally, on Thursday evening, PPD Zagreb will welcome Hungarian Szeged. Szeged is currently third in Group A but PPD Zagreb are in good form and they will surely look to take revenge for the 30:21 loss against Hungarians on the road in the first part of the season. Eventual win against Szeged would seriously boost PPD Zagreb chances of reaching the knockout stage of the competition.
In Group B, Telekom Veszprem is currently third with the same amount of points as second-positioned PSG. Motor Zaporozhye is sixth – one point above Porto and one beneath Flensburg. In the first game of the second part of the season, Telekom Veszprem will welcome Porto on Wednesday. Hungarians have a team capable of going all the way which is surely one of their goals and in order to achieve that they have to win matches like this one. Portuguese players have however proved to be a tough opponent for anyone and it will be interesting to see the outcome of this one.
