Telekom Veszprem secure Hungarian Cup title in Szeged
Exciting handball week is behind Hungarian handball fans and enthusiasts in which Szeged welcomed the final tournament of Hungarian Cup. We did not have to wait too long for the match we were all excited about, the clash between two great rivals – reigning SEHA - Gazprom League champion Telekom Veszprem and Pick Szeged.
In what was the second match of the day on Saturday, Telekom Veszprem managed to reach a big 30:27 win in Szeged sailing straight into the grand final past big rivals. Petar Nenadic led them offensively with seven goals in this one while Andreas Nilsson and Rasmus Lauge netted four each. The match was narrow all the way until final few minutes when Vladimir Cupara grabbed a few important saves opening the doors to Nenadic to score and put Veszprem through.
In the big final only a day later Telekom Veszprem was dominant against city rivals Veszpremi KKFT reaching a huge 42:19 victory to secure the title. Andreas Nilsson went double-digits in this one (10) while Manuel Strlek netted five.
After winning the Hungarian Cup five times as a player, Momir Ilic now managed to secure his first coaching title in the competition. Big win away from home will surely boost Telekom Veszprem with confidence ahead of the finish of the season in which reigning SEHA champs will be looking to go all the way in all competitions.
