EHF EURO 2024 Qualifiers: All five SEHA national teams in action
Another national team week is ahead of us, and with only two rounds left to go until the end of the EHF EURO 2024 Qualifiers, it’s time to focus on what our SEHA – Gazprom League national teams need in order to accomplish the ultimate goal and qualify for the tournament. Let’s get started!
In Group 1, North Macedonia is going to play Luxembourg away from home on Wednesday, and then host Turkiye on Sunday. At the moment Portugal leads the group with eight points, North Macedonia and Turkiye have four each, and Luxembourg is yet to win a point. Given the nine-goal win over Turkiye on the road in the second round, a win over Luxembourg would basically help North Macedonia secure the second spot in Group 1.
In Group 2, Slovakia is on Wednesday going to welcome Norway, and Serbia will play Finland away from home. In the final round, two SEHA – Gazprom League participating countries – Serbia and Slovakia, are going to face off in Serbia. At the moment Norway and Serbia have six points each, while Slovakia and Finland have two. A six-goal road win in Slovakia means Serbia has already secured the second position in the group. That leaves Slovakia with a chance to deliver two solid outings, win some points, and be one of four of the best third-placed teams after the Qualifiers, as that would also help them secure the ticket for the 2024 EURO.
In Group 3, Iceland is leading the group with six points, the Czech Republic has six as well, Estonia is third with two, and Israel has just as much in the fourth spot.
Austria is leading Group 4 with eight points, Romania has two, Faroe Islands and Ukraine have two each.
In Group 5, Croatia is going to play Greece on the road on Wednesday, and then welcome Belgium on Sunday. Greece is currently leading the group with six points, Croatia and the Netherlands have five each, while Belgium has zero. Wins in Greece and Belgium would be enough for Croatia to book a spot in the 2024 EURO, and that’s surely what new coach Goran Pekovac and his players will be aiming for.
Hungary is dominating Group 6 with eight points, Switzerland has four, and Georgia and Lithuania have two each. In the final two rounds, Hungary will first travel to Lithuania on Thursday, and then play Georgia at home. With two wins over Switzerland during the last national team week, Hungarians have already secured the top spot in their group.
In Group 7 Slovenia is currently on top with eight points, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina have four each, while Kosovo has zero.
Finally, in Group 8 we have France on top with eight points, Poland and Italy second and third with four points each, and Latvia on the bottom with zero.
