Can Meshkov surprise unbeatable Veszprem?
After duties in their national teams, players of Hungarian Veszprem and Belarus Meshkov will face each other in another SEHA GSS League’s derby on Wednesday in Veszprem Arena. Home team is looking to continue their winning streak and guests will on the other side do everything they can to play on the best possible level against one of the best European teams. Hungarian champions will once again play without their captain Laszlo Nagy.
Antonio Carlos Ortega, MKB MVM Veszprem’s coach:
A lot of our players have had duties in their national teams this weekend which means they are a bit tired for sure. A really important period is ahead of us and our goal is to keep top performance until Christmas break. Meshkov has many good, quality players but our goal is to reach another victory.
Christian Zeitz, MKB MVM Veszprem’s player:
I’ve used this week to recover a bit from my back injury and I feel I’m feeling better now. I am ready to play. Key for tomorrow’s win will be good, tough defense. If you play well in defense you have a chance to score many easy goals.
Željko Babić, Meshkov’s coach:
Veszprem are the best European team in my opinion. They have two strong players on every position. They run a lot, play strong defense. They didn’t lose a single match this season. The team virtually has no weaknesses. I expect that they will play on EHF CL’s F4 this season. We will have to change concept of our game. We will be without injured Karačić, Kamshyk and Vukić, but also without Nikulenkau. He feels the pain, so he will stay in Brest to make some examinations. We’ve lost three players from the back line, but we will fight, no doubt about that.
