Sweet revenge for Meshkov
Belarus champions Meshkov Brest have managed to reach sweet revenge for their last season’s defeat to Vardar on SEHA GSS League’s Final Four in Novi Sad. Meshkov has with +8 (30:22) ended guest team’s 8 matches without loss series.
Hosts were obviously motivated to win this match with Vardar's coach Gonzales deciding to give some of his most important players some time to rest before next weekend's CL clash against Veszprem. Meshkov has opened the match in a much better way reaching +3 after only 10 minutes and doubling it after only10 more minutes! Hosts were able to stay in lead during the whole match, waiting for a chance to enlarge the goal gap and conclude this, for the, great match. Only 10 minutes before the end they have had +2 at 22:20 but then it seemed like Vardar stopped playing. They have lacked concentration in match' decisive moments and hosts were cruising to a great and important victory. Pešić was remarkable with 15 saves, Stojković unable to miss with 7 goals from as much attempts. Terzić scored 5 for guests.
Raul Gonzalez, Vardar’s coach:
I'd like to congratulate to Meshkov. I
want to note that they have played an oustanding match today with maginificent
goalkeeper. Our performance was not, on the other side, on a required level.
Both attack and defense seemed to be a problem and we have to work on it.
Mikhail Chipurin, Vardar’s player:
Unfortunately we didn't show one of our best
performances. Meshkov's goalkeeper was great and our attack was really bad
today. I believe we'll play much better in the future, this was one of our
worst performances this season.
Željko
Babić, Meshkov’s coach:
I'd
like to congratulate to my players on a victory. Our defense was today, in my opinon the key
along with our remarkable goalkeeper.
Janko Božović, Meshkov’s player:
I would like to thank to our fans.
They've created a tremendous atmosphere today. We were good in defence from the
very beginning of the game. We knew that it will
be very difficult and how good Vardar is but I believe we've deserved to win
today.
