Meshkov u čvrstoj utakmici svladao Zagreb
PPD Zagreb have as a part of
SEHA GSS League's round 12 hosted Belarus Meshkov from Brest. In the end, in a
tough match Meshkov were better with 21:24.
Meshkov have opened the match better soonly reaching big advantage mostly because of well defence and remarkable Pešić. After 15 minutes team from Brest has forced PPD Zagreb's coach Vujović to call a timeout after trailing with -6 (3:9). However, even after the timeout Zagreb's attack was not able to find a way through to Pešić' goal. After first 30 minutes Meshkov were in front with big +7 (6:13).
After the break Zagreb have woken up, started playing defence - mainly in defence. They were slowly reducing the goal gap but it has in the end proved that Meshkov's huge +7 were simply too much, even for this better Zagreb after the break. Second half has finished with 9:9, in the end 21:24.
Ilija Brozović was Zagreb's best scorer with 4 goals, Ivić added 11 saves. Božović was on the other side unstoppable for Zagreb's defence leading Meshkov's attack with 7 goals, Pešić added 10 saves.
Veselin Vujović, PPD Zagreb's coach:
It is not easy to play against one opponent so often. We were aware that this was going to be a tough match, especially due to the fact that thsi was a last one before winter break and thos are always the hardest for players. In the first half we were not focused and in the second we were even a bit too aggressive. We could and should have played a lot better match but we have what we have.
Željko Babić, Meshkov's coach:
First I'd like to congratulate to Zagreb on great performances in the Champions League despite of the fact we were direct opponents. Speaking of the match it was visible that both teams were exhausted and a little too nervous. However, I like matches like this, my team has showed true fighting spirit and that's what makes me even happier than the win.
Zlatko Horvat, PPD Zagreb's player:
This was a true, fighting match. We've played a really good 15 minutes in the second half but after that we've lost the tempo a bit and that's why we did not manage to catch thos -2 we've managed to reach (16:18).
Ljubo Vukić, Meshkov's player:
I like matches like this which prove handball is a great sport. Zagreb have played a really good match but in the end we've managed to win and take important three points.
