Tatran with a big win ahead of winter break
Tatran have in Prešov managed to reach a big and important win over Belarus Meshkov Brest with 26:22.
It was from the first minute clear that this was going to be a true SEHA GSS derby. Neither team was able to enlarge the goal gap due to strong defences as well as precise and creative attacking solutions. After first 30 minutes result was 12:12.
Match was decided right before the end of the second half with guests remaining goalless for about 10 minutes. Hosts have managed to use it well with great 6:0 series. It was clear that such a 'dark hole' in Meshkov's performance was simply too big to reach better results in Tatran handball Arena.
In the end 26:22 with Rabek scoring 9 goals from 11 attempts for hosts and Rutenka 7 for Belarus team from as much attempts.
Peter David, Tatran' coach:
It was a really tough match- We knew that very small datails would decide this match and exactly it happened at the end when at very tough phase of the second half our goalkeeper Svetislav Verkic cought three 7 m throws. In this tough match we had one advantage because we had a bench with more players to use and Meshkov obviously was missing Manojlovic and Nikulenkau. I am happy we have managed to make a revenge for the match when we lost in Brest and did not qualify to EHF Champions League. I wish all Merry Christmast and Happy New Year.
Vasja Furlan, Tatran's player:
It was a very good match. We fought all the way till the end. There were problems on both sides but at very end our goalkeeper Verkic decided the match. I am satisfied with the big win and another three points.
Željko Babić, Meshkov's coach:
It was a big win for Tatran and they deserved to win tonight at the end. Everyone was fighting till the end. Tatran goalkeeper held the team and three 7 m throws decided the game. I wish Merry Christmas to all.
Simon Razgor, Meshkov's player:
Tatran was a better team tonight. They played well with excellent goalkeeper’s performance. At the end we did not make enough combinations and that is why Tatran won.
