MKB-MVM Veszprem keep the winning streak alive after clash against Zagreb
MKB-MVM Veszprem ostao neporažen nakon utakmice protiv Zagreba
PPD Zagreb were not able to stop Veszprem's winning streak. In front of Varaždin crowd Hungarians have reached 17th win in a row celebrating 21:24. This victory has brought Ortega's team only step away from ending the regular part of the season without losing a point. Final opponent on that road will be two-time champion Vardar in a week. Speaking of Zagreb, they will remain in the race for third place but are now in a bit tougher position because Meshkov, which also has 30 points, also has match more to play.
It was a tough match, real derby, narrow until the end although it seemed like Veszprem were all the time in control not allowing any surprises. In the beginning hosts have missed some clear chances and Veszprem have later on used theirs reaching +4 (10:14) after first 30 minutes. In the second half Zagreb was playing better even reaching -1 less than 5 minutes before the end of the match but sadly for them that was all they could do today. Marguč has in the end with 2 fast goals brought guests 3 new points.
Josip Valčić and Luka Šebetić were PPD Zagreb's best scorers scoring 5 goals each and on the other side Gašper Marguč scored 6, captain Laszlo Nagy 5.
Hungarian champions will in the last match of the regular part of the season play in Skopje against Vardar and Zagreb will in three days host Borac and then in the last round travel to Kragujevac.
Veselin Vujović, PPD Zagreb's coach
We've known that Veszprem are big favorites and they have showed that on court today. Our goal was to play a good match, do our best and I believe we've done that. Defence was fine, attack lacked faster 'flow' but all in all it wasn't bad. Of course, I am not satisified with a loss but I think we've showed that each team has to prepare and play great if they want to reach points against us. I hope we'll meet with Veszprem once again on F4!
Zlatko Horvat, PPD Zagreb's player
Good match for us, real battle on the court. We've played really well against strong opponent. We've even had our chances but lacked few easy goals. But that's how it goes. I believe that the fact that we've brought the match into an narrow ending says much for itself. I'd like to thank Varaždin for a great atmosphere.
Carlos Ortega, MKB-MVM Veszprem's coach
Zagreb have played an outstanding match today, as expected, Key for our win today was our defence and I can say I am satisfied with 3 new points. Our goal is to finish the regular part of the season without a lost point and in order to do it we'll have to beat Vardar in Skopje in the last round.
Mirko Alilović, MKB-MVM Veszprem's goalkeeper
Zagreb have not lost a match at home in CL this season andI believe it is clear why. Details have decided the match. We have a good team and it must be hard to stay close all the time. Considering us, we're on a good way to remain unbeaten until the end of the season and that's what we're satisfied with.
