Vardar made it look easy against PPD Zagreb
Лесна победа за Вардар против ППД Загреб
One of the biggest derby matches in SEHA Gazprom League was decided after only 15-20 minutes seeing Vardar as a clear and sure winner, taking the match with 33-24 at the end.
The host started superbly and fully focused while PPD Zagreb was disorganized with a lot of mistakes, and that was a fine chance for Vardar to score fast and easily. The result was 8-2 after 10 minutes of the game, and 15-5 in the 22th minute and even then everybody in the hall "Jane Sandanski" knew who is going to win.
Veselin Vujovic had difficulties with the injuries in his team anyway, so this bad beginning of the match made it impossible for him to overcome and beat Raul Gonzales. It was 20-10 for Vardar after the first half and in the second things didn’t change much.
Zagreb had one good period with a run of four goals that have allowed them to come closer to Vardar (22-16 in the 38th minute), but they didn’t have the strength for something more.
Sergey Gorbok and Blaženko Lacković have had a perfect night in the winning team with 5 out of 5, and Domagoj Pavlović was the top scorer with 7 goals. Vardar climbed to the second place on the standings with 25 points, one more than Zagreb.
Raul Gonzalez, Vardar' coach:
Zagreb always plays well, even though this season when it is hard for them because they have a lot of injured players. They didn’t have left back in this match, and that is very hard, so Horvat had to play as a back, as well as some other younger players. I am satisfied, in the first 15 minutes our defense was very good, Šterbik was great at the goal as we used a lot of counter attacks... I am very satisfied with the first half.
Blaženko Lacković, Vardar' player:
We've entered with full strength in this match from the first second. We knew how to materialize our good defense, good form of Sterbik, our good counter attack and some of the mistakes that Zagreb made. Until the end we just needed to keep that lead. I wish a lot of luck for Zagreb and I hope we will meet again in both F4 tournaments in SEHA Gazprom league and in the Champions league.
Veselin Vujović, PPD Zagreb' coach:
We had very bad entering in the game. Vardar made a serious difference very early, so until the end of the match everything was just a formality. I gave chance to some of my younger players who have to play anyway since we have seven injured players. Vardar is much better team than PPD Zagreb at this moment. I wish them a lot of luck in SEHA as well in the EHF Champions league. As for us, we will fight as much as we can, promoting new talents.
Jakov Vrdoljak, PPD Zagreb' player:
We started badly in this match, so Vardar got away very early and we couldn’t come back. In the second half we tried something, but they simply kept their advantage.
