Perfect Vailupov with 11 goals leads Meshkov to their 9th SEHA Final 4
Mikita Vauilupov with lead Meshkov Brest with 11 goals today. SEHA – Gazprom League Final 4 tournament in Zadar awaits once again, as Belarus champion beat Eurofarm Pelister, this time 35:31 (18:14) in second leg of Quarter-Final. Meshkov get another chance to finally win their first SEHA trophy.
Since their debut in SEHA, Meshkov have never managed to triumph, even when they hosted the Final 4 tournament. This season, Meshkov are among the most serious candidates for the title again, although so far outsiders haven't won often.
Eurofarm Pelister arrived in Brest with a 27:31 deficit from the first leg, but also had faith and motivation that they will give the maximum, and hope that anything is possible in sports. But the resistance of guests lasted for only ten minutes, when Tomislav Kushan scored for the 5:5 tie.
Instead of keeping that rhythm, Eurofarm Pelister had a "black hole", and did not score a goal for eight minutes, so in the 18th minute Meshkov already had a 11:5 lead. It was a period of great play for the home team who confirmed that the match should be just a formality. In the 24th minute Brest held the highest lead (16:8).
Home players were very efficient with over 70 percent shooting in the first half, while guests made only 50 percent of their shots. Goalkeeper Ivan Matskevich had a total of 12 saves (8 in the first half) of the match, as opposed to 8 for the entire guest goalkeeper duo, Marko Kizic (4) and Marton Szekely (4).
Meshkov's high advantage seemed to make the players relax a bit, so Eurofarm Pelister reached "minus 2" (20:18, 21:19, 22:20 and 24:22). And when the home side started playing well on defense again and quickly realized the attacks, they went quickly to a solid advantage of "plus 5".
Mikita Vailupau from Meshkov scored 11 goals and was by far the most efficient player on the court, while Nemanja Obradovic netted five times like his teammate Stipe Mandalinic for the opposition.
